Folic Acid Clinical Trial (FACT) - Effect of folic acid supplementation in pregnancy on preeclampsia
Posted: Jun 19, 2014
The purpose of this study is to determine if high dose folic acid supplementation throughout pregnancy is beneficial as a new preventative strategy for preeclampsia. Preeclampsia is a complication of pregnancy which affects at least 5% of all pregnancies worldwide and has serious health consequences to those women and their babies. Preeclampsia is hypertension (high blood pressure) in pregnancy with proteinuria. Women who are 18 years of age, taking ≤1.1mg of folic acid, and who are at high risk for developing preeclampsia are eligible to participate.
