Benefits and Effectiveness of Support offered Through a Breastfeeding Clinic Study

Posted: Jun 19, 2014

The BEST ABCs is a randomized controlled study to evaluate efficacy and cost effectiveness of a breastfeeding/jaundice clinic based in the community after discharge from the hospital, with rate of exclusive breastfeeding at 3 months being the primary outcome. This multidisciplinary community clinic, developed in partnership between the research team, the Ottawa Hospital, and Public Health, will provide a comprehensive support for breastfeeding mothers during the first month after delivery. The clinic is staffed to provide an initial assessment within 12 to 48 hours after hospital discharge and then follow-up as needed during the first month after discharge.  Funder- Ontario Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care
